After the session you will be asked which pieces you made you would like to fire (see below for full details). If you would like to continue working on your pieces or trim them once leather hard you will need to book another session up to 10 days after your first one. Note that a maximum 2 pieces per student can be left covered for trimming. Any pieces not trimmed within 10 days will be sponged and sent for firing.

PLEASE DO NOT BOOK THIS SESSION IF YOU HAVE NO PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE WITH CLAY - you must be able to work on your own without any guidance or you will be asked to leave and we will not be able to refund you

What to bring
Remember to bring an apron and do not dress up in your favourite outfit.
Ideally have your nails cut short and your hair tied up.
Materials and tools included in the course
Clay - You will be given access to our studio white stoneware clay. No external clay is permitted. The booking includes up to 500g of fired clay per student (for all bookings made after 23 November - any earlier bookings do not include clay allowance). Any additional fired clay will be charged at £5 per kg. This works out around £2 for an average piece and it is aimed at discouraging students from firing pieces they do not intend to keep: clay can only be recycled before it is fired. This will be payable before the pieces are collected via payment link. There is a maximum of 5 pieces fired per student per class, with maximum 1 plate/wide piece of up to 20cm diameter and all pieces to a maximum height of 20cm. Pieces that are larger than this will not be fired.
Glaze - The pieces will be glazed by our technician in your choice our four studio glazes - you must mark the colour choice at the base of your pot before the end of the session. The cost of glazing is included. If you do not mark your choice of glaze colour we will assume white.
If you would like to return for a second session to trim or keep working on your piece/s please note that only two pieces can be kept for trimming. Please ensure you book the session within the right timeframe for your piece/s to be leather hard and maximum within 10 days and that you leave your pieces covered with plastic and with a note clearly indicating that you intend to return. We will only be able to store your unfinished & unglazed pieces for a maximum of 10 days - this is due to space limitations at the studio.
Tools - you will have access to our standard studio tools - if you need more specific tools feel free to bring them yourself, but make sure you do not leave them at the studio once your session is over as we can not accept liability if they go missing.
Terms of cancellation
All bookings are non-refundable.
If you are no longer able to attend your session, please let us know as soon as possible and we will do our best to help. If we can find another person to take over your place we will issue you with a refund for the cost of your booking minus a £20 admin fee. If no other person books your place we will not be able to refund you.
Practice Session details
Location: Gatehouse A, The Old Imperial Laundry, 87 Warriner Gardens, London SW11 4XW
Day & Time of class: as chosen from the drop down menu at check-out
Duration: 2 hours (occasionally 3 and 1.5hours - your session will last as per your chosen option from the drop down menu). All sessions include 15 minutes cleaning before the end of the session.
Experience required: intermediate onwards - please do not book the class if you have never worked with clay
Max number of people in each class: 8 - 3 at the wheels, 6 at the tables.
Collection: 3-5 weeks after the end of the session. Please check the link “Collections” in the footer of our website 3-4 weeks after the end of your session to see if your pieces are ready to be taken home.
