Course description

The course is structured so that students will have the chance to learn to hand build as well as to spend one day of practice at the potters’ wheel. During the last session you will learn how to glaze your pieces.

Our lovely teachers will show you how to prepare your clay and navigate the different hand building techniques to create your pieces. During your day of practice at the wheel you will learn how to centre clay and form a basic shape.

It is ideal for beginners or intermediate level makers. Also suitable for experienced potters which are advised to speak to the teacher in the first class if there are specific skills that they would like to focus on during the course.

Terms & Conditions of booking

By purchasing this class you agree to our T&Cs (link in footer).

What to bring

Remember to bring an apron and do not dress up in your favourite outfit as clay can get messy.

Ideally have your nails cut short and your hair tied up.

Materials and tools included in the course

Clay - Any fired clay will be charged at £5+VAT per kg. This works out around £2 for an average piece and it is aimed at discouraging students from firing pieces they do not intend to keep: clay can only be recycled before it is fired. There is a maximum of 1 plate/wide piece of up to 25cm diameter during the entire course and all pieces to a maximum height of 25cm.

Glazing - The cost of glazing in any of our studio glazes is included in the course.

Tools - you will have access to all the tools you need for the workshop.

Terms of cancellation

All bookings are non-refundable.

If you are no longer able to attend your course, please let us know as soon as possible and we will do our best to help. If we can find another person to take over your place on the course we will issue you with a credit note for the cost of your booking minus a £20 admin fee. If no other person books your place we will not be able to issue a credit note.

It is not a problem at all to miss a class throughout the 5 weeks period but we recommend that you attend the scheduled number of sessions to get the most out of the programme. We understand that you may have other commitments throughout the five weeks, and your teacher will ensure that you are caught up on everything that you have missed when you return.
